About us
Founded in 2013, UpLift Physical Theatre is a collaborative of actor-acrobats trained in ensemble-based physical theatre at Dell’Arte International. Pushing the edge of human ability, UpLift’s unique style uses the momentum and visceral engagement of our living bodies to create original works that explore the physical truths of gravity, emotion, and endurance. Rather than working in one particular style, the ensemble believes in prioritizing collaboration and content, letting the form and style emerge naturally from each original piece. Their work has ranged from a 9 person sweeping acrobatic epic to a highly-intimate trio of grief to a clown adventure among three animal friends and more. UpLift has toured nationally and internationally. In 2022 they won an award for "Original Application of a Physical Language” at the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theater in Egypt for UpLift Physical Theatre’s original acrobatic show "Through The Waves." In 2023, they were sponsored by the State Department as part of their Arts Envoy program to bring "Through The Waves" to the Karachi Theater Festival in Karachi, Pakistan. UpLift has been in residence at SAFEHouse for the Arts, Dell Arte International, Vassar College and University of Dayton, OH. Their work has been supported by Theatre Bay Area, NET/TEN, and the U.S. State Department.
